“The most beautiful thing we've built here isn't the building. It's the Friday night table.”
We arrived in Brighton in 2009 with a pram, a folding table and a box of candles, and set up Shabbat dinner in our lounge room for whoever came. Fourteen people came. The next week it was twenty-two.
Chabad of Brighton is still built around that lounge room feeling — unhurried, personal, no membership and no judgement — only now it fills a light-filled house near the beach with a small shul, a children's room, a garden sukkah and a kitchen that never quite closes.
