Chabad of Double Bay opened its doors in 1978 in a rented flat above a bakery on Knox Street, with a Torah borrowed from the Great Synagogue and eleven men for the first minyan. Forty-seven years on, the same idea holds: every Jew — whatever their background, level of observance or knowledge — has a place at our table.
Today that table is a daily minyan, a Hebrew school of eighty children, weekly shiurim, a mikvah, a kosher kitchen that feeds three hundred on a Friday night, and a community that turns up for each other at brissim, bar mitzvahs, weddings and shivas alike.
